New York Times best-selling author David Morrell (FIRST BLOOD, THE BROTHERHOOD OF THE ROSE, THE FIFTH PROFESSION, and EXTREME DENIAL) is releasing a new dark-suspense thriller, CREEPERS (CDS Books, September 6, 2005).

"Creepers" is the slang term for urban explorers - history and architecture enthusiasts who share a passion for investigating abandoned buildings and their dying secrets.

On a cold October night, five creepers gather in a run-down motel on the Jersey shore and prepare to break into The Paragon Hotel. The once-magnificent structure is now boarded-up and slated for demolition. But soon after they enter the rat-infested tunnel leading to the hotel, they find more than they bargained for. Danger, fear, and death await the creepers in a place ravaged by time and redolent of evil.

The Internet reveals hundreds of thousands of urban-explorer contacts throughout the world. But for every group of creepers that decides to publicize itself, there are many who don't - because urban exploration is illegal and so unsafe it can be deadly.

Nonetheless, the compulsion is intense. In a culture that destroys the past in pursuit of the future, creepers long to explore forgotten places. As a character in CREEPERS says, "Given the disastrous condition of our world, it makes a lot of sense to retreat into the past." But what if the past turns out to be more frightening than the present?
