Kealan: Just read The Acquaintance and Head in the Clouds from the website. I loved both stories. I loved the way The Acquaintance ended, and some of the word usage was powerful. I was drawn to the main character's angst. I love the inner dialogue he had and how it was the opposite of his actions, toasting Mick's dead mother when he could care less, for example. I should have written them all down so I could use them here. One in particular phrase about Ger's legs under the blankets like two dead bodies. Particularly liked that. Also, loved the pace of Head in the Clouds. I've always like the idea of telling a story through dialogue. Compassionate piece and sad. I love the combo. Look forward to reading Eddie's...when I can get a little more time. Keep it up, sir! Brandon PS. I added your site to my blog. Hope that was okay. Good things there, your site, that is. |

Thanks a million, Brandon! I'm glad you enjoyed those tales. Both represent something a little different than my usual fare, though I have experimented with dialogue-only stories in the past (a rough 'ol piece called "Parting Words" back before I found my sea-legs.) I was very much drawn to the main character in "The Acquaintance", so much so that I have not ruled out revisiting him at some stage to see how he's doing (or not doing as the case may be.) There's something very tragic about him long before the proverbial shit hits the fan. I hope you have fun with Saturday Night At Eddie's -- another unusual one, which went on to form the basis of my novel Currency of Souls. |
