The Good: The latest issue of Beware the Dark is shipping this week and yours truly has a story and a review in it! The issue is devoted to Tom Piccrilli and has three of his unpublished stories in it! In addition it has testaments to his friendship, good faith and character from a who's who in the horror and publishing world. It also has a story by Ed Lee! My story in this issue is called The Black Dress and it is an erotic tale about a man who murdered his wife, and her black dress and stiletto heels won't leave him alone! My review is of one of Pic's lesser known novella's, Pale Preacher. And to those wondering, Nanci was gracious enough to let me review the work for Beware The Dark. The Bad: I just received a rejection notice on a story I had a lot of faith in. On the positive side, the editors gave me an IN-DEPTH critique of the story, one like I had never received before. The funny thing is I did struggle with two of the points they made on it, and I made the wrong decisions when I wrote the piece. Of two of the points they made, I deliberately wrote it the way I did, thinking that readers will be astounded by my plot twists. Boy, was I wrong on that one (and Chris, you also pointed one of these out to me and I still chose to keep it that way). There were two other points they made that were spot on and I never realized them. Again, I was so positive that what I was writing was so different (for me) that it never occurred to me that I wasn't getting my point across. So anyway, the critiques gave me the motivation to rewrite the story rather than storing it in my trunk. |

Good that you got some critique out if it, Tony! It's always useful, despite the rejection being a kick in the arse.
