Post subject: | Finished Mr. Hands... |
I just finished Mr. Hands and absolutely loved it. I have to admit, I really, really enjoy your (or Mr. Braunbeck's, depending on who's reading this) style of story telling. Mr. Hands is my first of your long fiction and is one of the most unique books I've ever read, and is probably the first ever that I'd known immediately after finishing it that I will be coming back to it soon. Give me a few months... I'll be reading it again. *** SPOILERS *** One last thing. It's hard to admit this... you know, as a guy and all. Mr. Hands was a very emotional book. Maybe it's just me, but when the birthday boy was beaten, it was pretty difficult to hold back tears. There were a few other scenes as well that had me emotionally involved. I'm not sure what book I'm going to order next, but I can't wait till it arrives. ![]() |

...you two might be interested to know that, in their own ways, both Rael and Mr. Hands (as well as the Keepers from KEEPERS) make appearances in the next Cedar Hill novel from Leisure, COFFIN COUNTY. (This is all winding up to the 6th -- and biggest -- of the CH novels.) I'm so glad to know that you've both been enjoying the novels. It's also great that readers aren't feeling cheated by the shorter length of MR. HANDS (it clocks in at almost exactly 75k); I have decided that, as the CH novels are heading toward the home stretch, I'm not going to worry about length; each of them will be as long as they need to be, and no longer -- hence the inclusion of "Mudman" in MR. HANDS, as well as the inclusion of "Union Dues" and "I'll Play the Blues for You" at the end of COFFIN COUNTY (which also clocked in at around 75k). "Blues" and "Dues", BTW, tie back into "Kiss of the Mudman." Thank you again for the kind words. They mean a lot. --Gary |
