Thanks so much for taking the time to give such extended feedback! Overbearing? Not at all. I appreciate your honest reactions to the novel. Yes indeed, I am mulling a third and possibly final SANTA novel, though I'm in the very early stages of planning and pondering. Later this year, I'll bring out a trade paperback edition of DEADOLESCENCE, which is the novel I serialized last spring. It was going to be the next Leisure book, until CALIBAN AND OTHER TALES didn't sell as well as SANTA STEPS OUT. Long story, I'll relate it to you at some con or other! [One more request: I'd _love_ it if you could give me a five-star review on Amazon, but only if you're so moved & do that sort of thing.] Thanks again, Mark, Robert |

I am rather ashamed to admit I haven't finished DEADOLESCENCE yet. I started reading it when it was first coming out in the email installments, but then my life got in the way, and not in the good way, and then I kind of forgot about it. It is still here on my computer and I promise I'll get back to it soon. I was thoroughly enjoying how very bizarre it was. The thing is with your stuff, the reader can rest assured they've never read anything quite like it. Sorry to hear about Leisure, that really sucks. I have great fondness for Leisure as they are pretty much the last place putting out primarily horror. With CALIBAN AND OTHER TALES, the unfortunate truth is that collections don't usually sell as well, and you'd think that is something they'd have taken into consideration. I mean, you'd think sheer talent would ensure publication but the truth is that it's a business and money often is the bottom line. For me, I love collections, I get so excited when I hear a writer I admire is coming out with a collection, and if I'm interested in a writer I haven't read before, I often buy a collection first to get a sense of who he or she is as a storyteller. Then again, I do consider myself a short story writer primarily, and I know how hard it is to find markets for them. I've been trying to interest some small publishers in a short story collection for ages, but no one wants one, especially by an unknown. And I'd be delighted to leave a review on amazon. Last year when HORROR 101--a nonfiction book about horror movies in which I have two essays (one on CARRIE the other on the original VILLAGE OF THE DAMNED)--came out, the small publisher Midnight Marquee Press couldn't really afford to give the book a solid push, so those of us involved worked our asses off self-promoting and trying to get the word out, which included trying to get people to post some positive reviews on amazon. I'll be happy to help you out. |

These days, novels only. The publisher of The Harrow (online) is picking up "One Flesh: A Cautionary Tale," which appeared long ago in Iniquities magazine, for his February issue. Kinda nice to see that nasty piece of work back in public view. |

Small world, I've published a lot of stories in The Harrow e-zine. They've been very supportive of my work, and specifically my work with gay characters and themes which I sometimes have a hard tmie finding homes for. I have a story up there this month, in fact, though it's not one of my most original. I'll be sure to look for yours Februray. EDIT: The Harrow was also one of the places I thought about trying to see if they'd let me do a review of Santa Claus Conquers the Homophobes in an effort to get the word out. |

Great idea! The editor already knows about the book. My guess is he'd be receptive. |

I got bogged down with some life stuff--funny how that always gets in the way--but I have written the review and submitted it to The Harrow. I'm waiting to hear what he has to say. |

Not a problem, I was happy to do it. I just hope my review was good enough for them to publish so I can help get the word out. Nonfiction is not my thing, really. The two essays I wrote for the book Horror 101 took me forever to get done, although I was happy with the end results. Anyway, you be sure to keep me updated about future projects. I'm a big fan. Oh, and how was the trip? |

A wonderful trip, thanks! We easily walked 7-8 hours per day, saw just about everything we wanted to see, found local restaurants with food to die for, and resolved to go back in a few years! NTW, I posted your Amazon review to the International Thriller Writers website, or actually as part of the listing for SANTA CLAUS CONQUERS THE HOMOPHOBES there. It's beautifully written, so I suspect the one for The Harrowing will indeed be accepted. Paint me stunned if not. :^) |

Well, thanks. Writing is what I do, what I love. I just feel so much more confident in fiction. I guess you could say I have self-confidence issues when it comes to nonfiction. And the review for Amazon was just my heartful gut response to the book. With the review for The Harrow, I was trying to make sure it was more structured wtihout giving away too much of the plot. I'm probably worrying over it for nothing, but I want it to get accepted mostly because I want to get the word out about your book. I'm a great cheerleader for writers I admire. I think it's time I started a new novel. The two I have I like but have a lot of weaknesses and garnered little interest from publishers. The idea I have is a mystery, which is not a genre I'm comfortable in, but I think it could be good, so I'm giong to make an outline, which I rarely do, before I start. |
