Santa Claus Conquers the Homophobes has received its first review, in The Harrow, and it's a good 'un. Excerpts: "The premise concerns Santa's immortal stepdaughter Wendy using her talents to see into the futures of the children of the world and seeing the promise of one life snuffed out due to homophobia and intolerance. At her behest, Santa sends up an entry to God himself to intervene and save young Jamie Stratton's life. Working through Archangel Michael, God allows Santa and Wendy--with the help of the happily castrated Easter Bunny--to visit those whose intolerance will lead to Jamie's ultimate suicide in an attempt to persuade them to change their ways and embrace diversity. The Tooth Fairy gets wind of his plans and does everything within her power to stop him." "The Tooth Fairy [is] one of the most delightfully wicked villains in any book I've read in the past five years, a creation that can cause other writers to feel a mixture of admiration and jealousy that they didn't come up with a character that much fun and evil." "a wonderful mix of ancient mythology and childhood icons . . a hell of an accomplishment . . . startlingly original and daring" Full review here: http://www.theharrow.com/journal/index. ... =view&path[]=2815&path[]=850 (Because of the way URLs are handled here, I can't get you right to the review, but scroll down to the listing in the Table of Contenst and select HTML.) My pleasure, and you got another glowing reader review on Amazon. On another board I frequent, I convinced someone to get it and she is reading it now, and loving it so far despite never having read Santa Steps Out. |

Thanks again, Mark, for all you've done to champion this book. This morning (perfect timing!), Dorman Schindler published a review in the Denver Post, at least, and probably elsewhere as he's syndicated on a small scale throughout the US, I think. Soon, assuming the online Post has it available, I'll start a separate thread pointing readers to it. Vicki and I saw MILK last night, and it made me so glad to have lit this one candle. Surely, if too slowly, those on the side of the angels chip away at the bigotry. Ciao! Robert |

I've heard awesome things about MILK, and I really want to see it, but living in a small southern town, it's not the kind of movie that plays around here. I remember at first Brokeback Mountain didn't play anywhere around here and Joel and I travelled quite a distance to see it. Then after it started really making money and getting nominations for awards, it did start playing in some closer cities. Anyway, MILK is probably one I'll have to wait for the DVD, but the ads and clips I've seen look amazing. Ever have any luck with the Lambda Literary Report? Seems like this book would be perfect for them to review. |
