Right now, I'm lucky to live a state blessed with an over abundance of lunatics (New Jersey). It's even nicer that that there are people here who appreciate it so much, they actively go out and do research and solicit oral folklore from people. These two guys edit a magazine called WeirdNJ, as well as a book called WeirdUS. (www.weirdus.com) Interestingly enough, the History Channel hired them to do a nationwide travel show. The've used that success to also help produce a series of books doing the same (Mark Justice They've done one on Kentucky, but sadly, not West Virginia).

Anyhow, ghostlore and all around real life weirdness facinates me to no end, and I'm assuming the average horror reader and aspiring writer would too. I was wondering if some of you guys could post any info on folklore published in your areas. For example, West Virginia has, to my knowledge (which is limited, has The Mothman Prophesies, and the Braxton County Monster, both of which have had books about them by local presses. I know Mark mentioned Mothman, a couple of shows back.

Am I alone in thinking that this stuff is good writing inspiration?

There's a book called The Haunted Registry that I own a couple of copies of that lists ghost tales and legends for every state. I own alot of those types of books and really enjoy several of Hans Holzers books as well. They are a good inspiration, as you said.
I'll have to reread some of my Haunted Indiana books and try to find some of the more unique ones. Most of the Indiana ones that I have read before are fairly mundane.
