Greatest Horror Ambassador?

I picked Rod Serling because he is a great hero of mine (although I'm a big fan of Hitchcock and Price as well). I think his television show The Twilight Zone was trend setting and got a lot of people thinking about that type of fiction.

Gotta go with SK, too. The man has reached people through printed books (fiction and non-fiction), movies, TV, magazines, audio books, and now comic books. Hell, he even acts in his own movies. And aside from that, he just seems like a really cool guy.

IMO, Rob Zombie shouldn't even be on that list. He's a geek wannabe. His movies are better than typical Hollywood whorror these days...but that ain't saying much. I do NOT have high hopes for the Halloween remake. In fact, I'm disgusted that it's even happening. The original is fucking perfect. I wish hemorrhoids on everyone involved in the making of this travesty.

I'm also not sure about having Rob Zombie in that list. For that matter Robert Englund should be there. Or even better, Wes Craven.

As much as I'd like to go for Serling, I too voted for King. His impact on horror is enormous and undeniable. (Matt you gotta pick up "The Shining" or "Salem's Lot"

I'm actually not a fan of Rob Zombie either, but I was having a hard time thinking of who else to put on the list. I figured that perhaps a younger generation might pick someone like him.

I really like Stephen King's movies (It, The Shining mini-series, Storm of the Century, Rose Red) but have had a hard time reading the novels of his that I have picked up. I'm sure I would love It, but the fact that it is over a thousand pages long means it would take me about four months to read as slow as I am.

King and Koontz are two people who are the "gateway drug" to horror. I start with King, and before you know it, you're hooked and find yourself on Horrorworld.org and the shocklines message board!

Richard Matheson and Ray Bradbury!!! King cites their influence on his work all the time.
