Dear Mr. Justice, I am stopping by to thank you for your review of my most recent novel, Bound in Flesh. I truly appreciate your take on it, even if Mike O'Donald's transformation into a vampire is somewhat misrepresented. But if that's the case, it's absolutely the only point of distortion. You do truly grasp what I'm doing with the Bound series and since, as you point out, "it's not easy reading," there's an awful lot to pick up. I really enjoyed your comparing me to Anne Rice on crack. As funny as I thought that was, you did your readers a real service by indicating that this wasn't going to be one of those "oh, poor me" vampire stories. Like you said, my vampires are nasty and I like them that way. I hope you'll enjoy the rest of the series as well. Again, my thanks, David Thomas Lord |

Hi David. Thanks for dropping by. I'm sorry if you felt the transformation was misrepresented. I guess I could have dug deeper for a more comprehensive explanation but I thought the penis thing was a good window into the tone of the book. ![]() And I was happy to find that these weren't the woe-is-me type of vamps. I wish you a lot of success with the series. |

Hey, Mark. I'm not bothered by the slight misinformation--but my readers will get you! You should see how they got when a copywriter got a different transformation wrong! Just yesterday I explained to one of my readers exactly what you've said to me. I understood perfectly why you wrote it as you did. No problem. After Anne Rice's series, so many other writers jumped with both feet into making that maudlin, victimized vampire--So lonely! So misunderstood! I wanted to return the vampire to what he had been: a monster. I had tons of fun making Jack a bastard...and then making the other vampires even worse! If you get a chance, take a look at the previous book, BOUND IN BLOOD. You'll see why the biting scene is even nastier than you'd imagined! Thanks again for such a good review. All my best! |
