Hey Mark, I noticed while checking out your blog, that you seem to be a fan of comic books. This is cool because I am one as well. I have over 4,000 in my collection and have gotten to the point where I give away many that I just can't find the space for. Of those 4,000, I'd say about 96% of them are Marvel Comics. The only comic that I collect regularly that is not Marvel is The Knights of the Dinner Table by Kenzer. It is also the only comedy based comic that I collect. My favorite comics is and has been for years, The Avengers. I have a very long run of theirs. I've been collecting them since I was in Jr. High, so about 24 years I guess. I was wondering who else out there are comic fans and what they like to collect?

I have a few horror ones, more of those are DC ones though. Werewolf By Night is a favorite and it is from Marvel. :v

Hey Matt. Yeah, I'm a lifelong comic book fan. My favorite era is 1970s Marvel, especially the horror and kung fu stuff. DC's horror always seemed too bland and safe, compared to the Marvel stuff.

Right now I'm enjoying Marvel's The New Avengers. I didn't think I would like the "Disassembled" stuff, but I've learned to trust the writing of Brian Bendis. I'm looking forward to the new book The Mighty Avengers.

From Marvel, I also read Captain america, Daredevil, The Punisher, The Immortal Iron Fist, Ultimate Spider-Man and several others. I also follow a number of books from DC, Dark Horse and Image.

Thanks for starting this thread. This place needs some comics discussion.[/i]

Hey guys, another life-long comic fan here. I used to read Daredevil, Batman, Spider-man, etc growing up (late 70's - early 80's), but now I read mostly
independent SF & Horror comics.

In fact, I have a podcast "deadicated" to just that.
:p

When we grow up, we want to be like Mark & Dave.

I've been an off and on comic book reader my entire life, going through phases of intense reading and collecting. My son has now caught the comic book bug (he reads The Incredible Hulk and The Simpsons comics.)

The two "houses" I read are Avatar and IDW, although I have dabbled with the big houses offerings (although I'm not a particularly huge fan of superheroes.)

I got to comic books late, and the annoying trend is that I can't afford them! Especially now!

I got in when Image started up and collected them. Early Spawn, Youngblood, Shadowhawk, WildCATS, stuff like that. Then, discovered the wonders of DC's Vertigo, through my first exposure to Neil Gaiman at a DEATH miniseries. Became highly addicted to Judge Dredd and Star Wars comics (hence the avatar).

Here's my trouble, however. With comics costing what, 2-3$ per title, I had to stop because collecting got expensive every weds. or so the new titles came out. I know there's a lot of graphic novels floating around, now, and some graphic novel "collections" but I've been out of it for like 4 years, and don't know where to pick back up. For example, everytime I pick up Spawn again, it's like I'm halfway through a storyline and don't know what's happening, so then I got to go buy the back issues. Vertigo titles are the same way, because the actual comics, in most cases, are just serialized graphic novels.

I'm up for any advice on how to cope with no money and a desire to collect again.

Hey Rich,
One possibility could be comic book conventions. We have ones near where I live about once every other month or so, and there are always booths that sell used comics for fifty cents or even a quarter a peice. It's even cheaper if you show up near the end of the day because the sellers are really trying to move there stuff then (less they have to cart back home I guess). It is kind of hit and miss as far as what available there, but often is worth the effort. Also you can often find bulks of specific comics on E-bay for decent prices. :)
