Dave, if you think Eraserhead is f-ed up, go to YouTube and type in "tetsuo" I think the actually title is tetsuo the iron man. Basically, it's the Japanese equal to Eraserhead. In stark, post-industrial black and white, a man literally turns into a machine, with graphic imagery. For years, I've heard of this film and never could find it. I've actually watched most of it, now, on YouTube.

I have never heard of Eraserhead, what is it about?

Eraserhead was David Lynch's first film of note. It's very art driven, in that's lacking a lot of dialogue and it's very visually orientated. It's about a ofguy who may have fathered a baby, but the baby is monstrous and deformed and does nothing but cry. There's a weird relationship with his girlfriend and her parents. There's also a lot of industrial imagery and noise. To say this movie has a plot would be kind of incorrect. It's just very surreal and non-linear, very much feeling loose jointed, like a non-sensical nightmare.

I always thought that Lynch's films came the closet to being true horror because they can be some of the most uncomfortable films to sit through. If you pay attention and try to "get into it" watching becomes a slightly cluastrophobic experience as logic just becomes meaningless. (To some people, this just makes it "boring.")

Horror films these days are usually geared towards the "huh, cool" response from some, usually in regards to special effects. But there's very little amounts of dread in it. Put it this way, remember the haunted tape in "The Ring"? Imagine watching 90 minutes of that.

Now imagine Eraserhead where the guy gets turned into a bundle of wires and circuits, and shoot in Japanese, but keep that David Lynch feel. That'd be Tetsuo the Iron Man. But watching it, you kind of see how that film went on to influence J-Horror outings, among other things.

I've got Eraserhead coming via Netflix sometime in the near future. Sounds odd.

I mentioned Terror Firmer in another thread. Definitely a strange movie. Others include:

Dancer in the Dark (with Bjork...not horror, but a dark and sad story)
Pink Floyd's The Wall (from a purely "this movie makes no fucking sense" point of view)
I have no idea what the name of the movie is, but it was about giant ants (about two feet long) that had human-like faces on them
A Clockwork Orange (I saw it when I was a kid, so that might add to the wierdness)

The couch ... it ... it rejected you!"

The best is the hatched faced Edith Massey wallowing in a playpen worshiping eggs.

I finally was able to identify a movie which is the weirdest thing you can imagine. It's called "Nowhere". I caught the last few minutes of this one years ago on TV and initially thought it was Donnie Darko because the actor was the same and it featured this puppet-like thing which I guess I confused with the rabbit.

This movie was called to be "90210" in acid, it dealt with drugs, polisexuality, there was even an alien parasite in ti, in the end **SPOILER** (which is the bit I saw) you have these two guys who I believe realize they love each other, they have sex and then one of them bursts.**END SPOILER**

Extremelly weird stuff.

There was a movie I saw on TV back in the 80s (and I would say it's even older). I can't remember the title, I was sure it was something like "Teeth" but I searched on IMDB and didn't find it. It was about a huge fat man who ate people. There was a detective and a female judge I believe who were trying to catch him. The movie was actually not horror but done as a comedy. Ring a bell?

That also sounds like "Luther The Geek." Movie about a guy who bites the head off of chickens, while going on a murder spree. The intended victim gets out of it by going "Bwak, Bwak!!!" I kid you not.

Run of the mill david lynch weirdness, but has anybody seen INLAND EMPIRE yet? It seems that I got released in theaters, dropped out of view, and then dissapeared.


Another really weird movie is "The Dark Backward." An unfunny comedian grows a third arm out of the middle of his back, and all of a sudden people think his same jples are funny

Pi: Faith in Chaos was really weird math based movie, filmed in the peculiar black and white style of Eraserhead.

I’ve put Tetsuo in my Netflx queue.

I dunno if this counts as weird, but - love it or hate it, you will NEVER forget it:

FAMILY PORTRAITS: A TRILOGY OF AMERICA written and directed by Douglas Buck.

No kidding. This one will take your head off.
