What scary elements do you enjoy, that seem to keep finding there way into stories that you write, or are consistantly in books that you like to read and you are happy that they are there?
For me, there are a few of regulars. They are:
1- Forests- It's to the point now where I want to have some kind of rich secluded forest area in the majority of things I write. I can't explain it, I just love forests I guess. They evoke a strong sense of mystery to me for some reason.
2- Skeletons and Ghosts- I strongly avoid writing anything with Vampiers, Werewolves or Zombies. I just don't tend to enjoy those types of stories, but I love to have skeletons and ghosts. Also for reasons that I cannot fully explain, I find them much more unnerving and interesting than other beasties.
3- Things without Facial Features- The last of my list and probably the hardest to explain why. I find stories or movies etc. with creatures that have a head without facial features extreamly creepy. I'm sure that there is some deep seated reason for this, but I don't know what it is. As a result , I like to use them in stories. I have actually only written about something like this once, but I love it when it is in something that I read or watch.
