I wanted to start a new thread on insect horror. Any book suggestions? Sarah Pinborough "breeding ground" as scott pointed out. Ray Garton, Nips as also been pointed out. Any other suggestions? I'd say Al Sarrantonio, but All Hollows Eve and Horrorween are not about yellow jackets, wasps, and hornets, even though both books makes good use of them. |

What I was meaning was that the insects themselves are not the point of the story. Sarantonnio's two books about Orangefield are more usually about hte Sam Hain god of the dead running afoul of Halloween, each year. But sure, there are some prominent hornet scenes, though. |

As for swarming horror there's James Herbert's Rats and (of course!!) Shaun Hutson's Slugs but I'm more curious about insects, for somereason. (It's late and I'm tired and I'm sick of grading comp papers?) |

Guess I should have checked out this thread before posting in the other one. ![]() But I do have one more to add that I forgot to list in the other one...and it's a CLASSIC! Don't forget Franz Kafka's "Metamorphosis." It's a longish short story (maybe a novella) about a guy who wakes up one day and he has turned into a giant beetle of some sort. It's somewhat disturbing, has some humorous slivers, and turns out quite sad. An absolute masterpiece of literature. |

Not insects, but The Conqueror Worms by Brian Keene is sorta close. I remember Robert McCammon has a short story in Blue World with insects. As far as comics go (maybe should go in the other thread) I can not recommend The Exterminators by Vertigo enough. I picked Volume 1 and really liked it. The art work is suitably gross, the story is well done. And its all about insects. |

I'm now trying to create a comprehensive list of killer, giant, mutant animals and nature gone awry. If you know of any title I missed, or wrong information, please let me know. I'm borrowing from an old Shocklines post and a list from the Monster Librarian, and my own collection and knowledge. I haven't read or don't own all the titles listed, so this isn't recommended reading. Let the reader beware.
