Post subject: | Prologues? |
I've been thinking about returning to work on my novel again lately. I have a first draft finished but haven't touched it in a Few years since. I have a good prelude in it that I like right now that sort of introduces the creature and the setting. I have an idea for another one that would help bolster my main characters resume for tackeling the problem. When I sent my work into my instructor at the Writers Digest Book Club, he suggested that I do something more with why my character would be involved in the whole affair. My question is, is it okay to have two preludes to a novel? Is it a good idea or a bad one? ![]() |

By prelude you mean prologue? I also tend to prefer more than one scene as prologue, what I do is separate them as different scenes (with an extra blank space). Maybe subtitles too, like different dates or locations. Cesar |

If your doing horror, a prologue is the perfect place to set up the supernatural. All I have to say is keep it reading like fiction. Tell a story that sets up the action, but also kind of explains the monsters some. |

Yup it's perfectly fine Matt. I'd suggest the same thing Cesar did - keep it in one prologue and when you switch VPs use the: One chacter doing nifty things here. * * * (only center these) Another character doing nifty things here. If you only use blank spaces the editor might think it's a mistake. Make your VP breaks clear for their sake - and ultimately yours. I use 3 different VPs in my prologue and thus far the editor hasn't had issue with it. I'd keep it short though, if you at all can. |
