Post subject: | When Inspiration Strikes... |
We had a large get-together here over the weekend...it lasted from Fri - Sunday afternoon (needless to say I'm zoned now...so forgive any weirdness or strange typos over the next few days). During it I was so busy the days flew! But the strange thing was...I also got a bunch of new story and character ideas! I've got to remember to write them down before I forget them...but still. I found it odd that during the times I actually search for inspiration or ideas they come reluctantly or not at all. But when I'm not bothering with it and just doing what I'm doing - they flow! Does it work the same with you guys? Or how does inspiration strike you? |

It's fairly much the same with me. If I try to actively plot, it's like pulling teeth, whereas when I'm doing anything but plotting, the plots come to me on their own. Looks like the old proverb my grandpa loved to say is especially true in writing: "A rooster won't crow just because you want it to." |

I seem to do best when I give an idea time to fester in my mind a bit. I generally come up with some kind of setting or theme or what-have-you for a story that I want to write about and then I give it a few days to let me subconcious play with it for awhile. Usually, I end up having a break through that seems really obvious and I can't believe that it took me so long to put things together that seem like they were made to go that way all along. Also, when I'm listening to podcasts (usually while reading meters) about something that interests me, the whole 'what if' senerios start taking off from a related subject and I find myself losing focus on what I was listening to as my mind goes off in this new direction of its own. I like it when it happens though, I can always relisten to the podcatsts, the ideas are worth the inconvence. ![]() |

Oh we can get it to crow...I'm sure ![]() Matt - heck yeah. Does that ever happen to you with music? I hear those mini recorders work well for that Dranak. The ones with those tiny tapes that you can hold in your hand. Maybe nab one of those and record your musing as you drive? |

I've thought about it, but as little time/inclination as I have to write now, I dunno that it'd be worth the investment. That, and it'd go against my whole not spending more money than I absolutely need to while in school goal thingy. |
