I just printed them and they're sitting here all nice and warm in my little paws!!! Thanks to the wonderful job Hashy and Varulf did in helping me fine tune it and edit it I don't have a corrections list at all ![]() So basically now I go through the galleys and see what changes ArcheBooks made (so far I've really liked their changes), make sure it's all ok and catch any errors. There instead of theirs that kind o' thing. Soooo I'm disappearing for a bit. I'll still check here and emails but response times will be slower than norm. But...this means it'll be out soon! |

Very cool! Congratulations! Just out of curiousity, when all is said and done how many times do you have to read through your novel with all the rewrites and gallies and stuff like that? I bet its a lot. Don't worry about responding quickly, I know you'll be busy for a while, I was just wondering. Good luck with the editing. ![]() |

Too many times. Seriously. This is how it worked with Apparitions: 1 - read 1st draft, make corrects 2 - make Mark's first corrections, read again. 3 - make Mark's second corrections, read again. 4 - make Hashy's 1st corrections, read again. 5 - make Hashy's second corrections, print, read again, final edit. 6 - print again...read...edit... 7 - print first three chapts, read (edit if necessary) 8 - first set of publisher edits, read. 9 - read galleys, edit. 10 - I'll read it again once it's in print! By the time you're done with 1 - 7...you want to kill off each and every character...you're so sick of it you want to vomit. That's why I like to alternate between horror and dark fantasy. |

Annnnd just when you thought you were done... Bob and I reworked the last chapter - it'll be tons better! He also gave me a list of things to watch out for and check...which means I'm going through the galleys again. That's not a bad thing really, it's nice, actually, that he's set on putting out the best book we can. Despite pulling 12-15 hour days staring at galleys and typing corrections, I'm excited. Tired, but geeked! I have to get the list to him by tonight or early tomorrow so it can head to the printer tomorrow! Woooohooo! |

Basically, what I think that Raven is trying to say is that the really 'fun' writing starts after the first draft is done.... ... and just gets even more fun when the publisher sends the galleys ![]() |

A lot... I usually edit my work 2 - 3 times (including re-writing, tightening, checking for spelling errors etc.) before I send them to Varulf. He's a co-author of mine that I've worked on several other projects with - plus one slated for this summer. He reads it, puts in his notes, then hands it back to me. I make his corrections (usually he's right on with them and I sit there and go... ... I never saw that!). I edit it again. Sometimes it goes through Dranak too, when I'm able to pester him. I make his corrections, read and edit again. Sometimes I bother Varulf again, and he re-reads it. Then Hashy does the final read through, I do his edits. Then I read through it again, edit and then finally send it out. So I'd say it goes through...*counts* 7 - 10 rounds of reading and editing before I think it's ready to send. Even with all of that I spent a week in galleys tossing the chapters back and forth with my publisher. It's a long process but well worth it. |
