I like writing short stories better because they can be finished so much quicker and the editing doesn't take so long. I like being able to move on to another idea somewhat fast. I enjoyed writing my novel and at first I didn't think I would be able to shorten my ideas enough into a short form but it wasn't as hard as I thought and now I like it the best. I don't think the novel I wrote will ever be finished because of having to edit it (and I really think it's my best work). It took me so long to write it originally, the thought of doing multiple edits on it is just too daunting and so I never get to work on it.

Yes, it contains a Preface, 16 chapters and an Epiloge. It's a total of 88,238 words, although a good edit would prbably bring that number down a good bit. I actually named each chapter because I always thought that was kind of a neat preview to what was inside that chapter. |

Yeah, if you haven't heard back from them by now - may as well! If they accept it after you send to another, just pull it from the other press. I've never been one big on the waiting game. Maybe edit your novel chapter by chapter instead of the entire book at once? That's what I do, it makes the entire process seem a whole lot less daunting. Getting such a good review of it in that class you took - it seems a shame to just let it sit. |

My short story for the Evil Books anthology, Bound for Evil, is done and has been E-mailed to them. It feels good to finally be finished with it and I know that I put forth the best effort I could. If it gets rejected, at least I'll know that I did the best I could.

I did hear from Weird Tales that they didn't receive the e-mailed story I sent them. It showed as having gone through fine on my end, so I waited until a couple of weeks past their longest review time and sent them an e-mail regarding it's status. Anyway, I have since resent it to them and will probably have to start my wait over again. It is also at Dark Discoveries, they are backlogged at the momment so I'm not sure when I'll hear from them. I sent a different story to Dead Letter Press but I don't expect to hear from them for awhile because they are accepting submissions for the project until the end of September. So I'm in the wait mode at the moment, but thank you for the interest.

I do try and write on other stuff but I don't produce a huge amount of writing a year. My New Years resolution for this year was to write at least six new short stories and start submitting some of my work. I have sent out one story to three different places so far and the other to Dead Letter Press. I have only written four new short stories so far this year but I spent a lot of time on some of them to get them into submission shape and have started working on a fifth one for our annual Halloween short story project some friends and I do at the big Halloween bash my family hosts. I'm close at least, but that sixth story may be cutting it a little close.

Well, I actually heard from Weird Tales today (weird, since I just posted about it here earlier today) and unfortunately they said that they cannot use it but to keep them in mind for future stories. So it has been rejected by two seperate places so far with one market still looking at it. They only said that it wasn't what they were looking for at the moment, which is too bad because I was hoping for a little more feedback if they didn't want it but I'm sure they are very busy and don't have time for a more detailed response. So I may have to look it over some more and see what else I can do to it to improve it before sending it back out.

Well, my story for Dead Letter Press didn't make the cut either but I got some good feedback from them and some possitive words about it too, so I think it may have a future somewhere after a little more revision. I'll just have to keep at it.
