Garage Sale finds.
I remember on a POH in the past there was a segemnet about horror finds at a garage sale. I hit some in my neihborhood today and found a few things.
Hooror Books:
The Pet by Charles L. Grant for $0.25 (I've never read Grant before but the two books I picked up had neat covers.) The Orchard by Charles L. Grant for $0.25
The Devil's Touch by William W. Johnstone for $0.25 (don't recoganize the author but it looked worth a shot.) 11 Great Horror Stories includeing The Oblong Box and The Dunwich Horror selected by Beth M. Owen for $0.25
By the way I got to promote both POH and Horrorworld to the lady at this sale, she's a big horror fan and wrote down the web address for Horrorworld that I gave her.
DVD's
The Complete First and Third season of Buffy the Vampier Slayer for $2.50 a piece (I have never watched any episode of this series but so many people have raved about it and $2.50 for any complete season of a show is too good not to at least give a try to, so I thought I'd give it a shot. If I don't like it I could probabley resell it for at least what I bought it for.) Bram Stokers Dracula
All in all it seems like a decent haul for a small bit of money.

I've been slowly collecting Grant myself, but have yet to read one of his novels. Too bad it's been raining here in Jersey, as you've given me the urge to go yard-saling!

Grant was one of the finest writers of quiet horror. But, like reading Campbell, I have to be in just the right mood to enjoy him. If the mood is right, reading Grant is a rewarding experience.
I was looking on Amazon about the books I got and it sounds as if The Orchard By Grant may have been a pretty good pick-up. I also found out that I have read two books by Grant without realizing it. Goblins and Wirlwind, they were both X-Files books and I just never paid much attention to who had wrote them at the time. I didn't really like Goblins but Wirlwind was pretty good.

I found the orchard in a used book store. Strangely enough, it was a british edition published over there. Grant is starting to be one of the authors that I pick up on sight, even though I have yet to read him. Bloch is another, and I think it is because that since they both passed away, finding their work will become harder over the years, especially as it was initially released. Millipede Press will probably republish some of the stuff, eventually.

I've enjoyed some of the ones I've read, although I have read a lot of them. As I said, I did like Grant's Wirlwind story for the X-Files and I also liked Kevin J. Andersen's X-Filesbook, Ruins. I've read one star wars book and really enjoyed it. It was called Tales From Jabba's Palace and I think it was by Andersen as well. The only other work for hire that I've read is Grant's Goblins X-Files book that I really did not care for. I was a pretty big fan of the X-Files so that may explain why I rather liked most of the ones that I read.
