I may be back into comics....

I made the first solid step back into comic nerd-dom: I went to my parents house and reclaimed my collection. I may have more over there, but I don't positively know. I've found a way around collecting and being broke, besides the excellent suggestions made to me months ago. I'm going to buy only back issues for the time being (One issue as at a time, as soon as the pocket change in a jar builds up), seeing if I could fill out where I left off when I stopped collecting many, many years ago. I have some weird shit -- pinhead comics, clive barker superheroes, that multi-cultural superhero line "Milestone." I think I'm going to blog some of the clive barker stuff on Damned Critic.

The nice thing about collecting the Barker and Milestones lines: You'll be finished pretty quick.

Hey Rich,

There is a company I keep hearing about on the Comic Geek Speak podcast called In Stock Trades that is supposed to sell all sort of trade paperbacks (most are collections of individual issues into one book) for up to 40% off the cover price. Trades are a cheaper way to go if your looking to fill in the holes of a collection without spending so much.

Here is an example. The link below is for EXCALIBUR VOL 1 FORGING THE SWORD TP. It collects issues 1-4 of EXCALIBUR. So instead of buying the idividual issues which could cost you $4.00 and up a piece, you can get all the issues in one volume for $9.99. Although there would be shipping added to that but I think their shipping is free for orders totaling over $50.00, as I recall.

No, Matt, I was meaning the back issues of weird discontinued stuff -- Mark was commenting on how Razorline and Milestone didn't last. So, if I'm going to complete those lines, I don't have many issues to hunt down. Today, I went to a comic store spent 4 dollars and left 5 comics. There's a store a few towns up from me that has a large 50cent section of clearence.

So now, I'm thinking a comic blog. But then again, Mark does a great job with that, and I wouldn't want to step on his toes. If I do a comic blog, however, it's going to be mostly obscure, uncollectable stuff.

I'll look into the discount TPB thing though, because if I'm ever going to get current, I'll need to go that route.

You might find the occasional weird stuff in a trade. I think they made one for the old Werewolf By Night series (of which I tracked down every issue of) in an essentials trade, but your right, I don't think they collected any of those particular series. If they have a local comic book convention near you you might be able to find some more there. We have a small one out by me every other month. I only hit the quarter and fifty cent bins anymore and get a lot of obscure stuff for very cheap. Good luck with the search.
